Proud of Knowing Someone Exceptional

Proud of Knowing Someone Exceptional

I firmly believe that I have got a friend who is worth her weight in gold. Her name is María, and I think she is one of those people who should win an award simply for being the way they are.

María is a devoted teacher. She has worked with children and teenagers all her life. Besides sometimes being a hard job, she has never regretted her choice. Even if the school in which she teaches does not have a lot of resources, this does not stop her for sacrificing her time and tranquillity in order to make sure that every maladjusted pupil has access to a proper education.

Despite living in a quite exhausting way, María always wears a smile. She is a very cheerful woman who is full-time available for her family and friends; the kind of person on whom you can rely for anything. I would like to lay emphasis on the fact that she knows what the important things are that matter in life, and she dedicates herself to them.

Even so, she still finds time for herself. She spends it reading books and playing sports. As she likes paddle tennis a lot, she is often arranging friendly matches and encouraging acquaintances to do the first step in the court.

In my opinion, all of this makes her a clear example of someone who should win an award. There is a strong tendency to reward poets, athletes and chemists, but I consider something to be missing. We, social beings, need people like María as much as poets and doctors. The world needs a change and we have to make an effort to consider these individuals who are the glue that holds all of us together.

Hasta mañana, Julia
